Smile Confidently With Veneers
Are you unhappy with the appearance of your teeth? Chipped, stained, or misshapen teeth can take away from the overall beauty of your smile. Dental veneers can help restore your teeth, transforming your smile and boosting your confidence.
Our process begins with a thorough smile assessment, where we take the time to discuss the aspects of your smile you love and those you'd like to change. From there, we will recommend personalized treatment options designed to enhance the natural, healthy, and youthful appearance of your smile.
Transform Your Smile With Custom Veneers
Veneers are one of the most conservative restoration options available, providing a subtle yet effective way to enhance your smile. Made from thin porcelain, they cover only the front surface of a tooth and can be customized to match the natural color of your teeth. Unlike crowns, which encase the entire tooth, veneers require minimal removal of enamel, preserving most of your tooth’s original structure. Essentially, veneers give your teeth a “new face” without the need for drastic changes. This makes them a highly effective and minimally invasive solution in cosmetic dentistry.
The process of getting veneers typically involves two visits. During the first appointment, your dentist at Castlewood Dental will prepare the tooth, and after a couple of weeks, the veneer is securely bonded to your tooth for a lasting, beautiful result.
Veneer Procedure for a Beautiful Smile
The dental veneer procedure begins with the dentist removing a small amount of enamel from the front of your tooth—usually less than one millimeter. In many cases, this step doesn’t require local anesthesia, as only a minimal amount of enamel is removed. The goal is to preserve as much of the original tooth structure as possible, as veneers bond best with the outer surface of the tooth. A dental bur, a rotating tool, is used to gently shave down the tooth’s surface.
Once the tooth is prepared, an impression or mold is taken. This mold is sent to a lab where your custom veneer will be created to fit your smile. To ensure the mold captures the right details, the dentist at Castlewood Dental may use a small retraction cord to move the gums away from the tooth temporarily. After that, you’ll bite into a tray filled with impression paste, which sets in a few minutes.
The mold is then sent to a dental lab, where your permanent veneer will be fabricated. This process typically takes about two weeks. During this time, a temporary veneer may be placed to cover the prepared tooth, though this isn’t necessary in all cases. Temporary veneers are often used if a significant amount of enamel was removed, as it may make the tooth more sensitive or prone to damage.
At your follow-up appointment, the custom veneer will be attached to your tooth. The dentist may make minor adjustments to ensure the veneer fits comfortably and looks natural. If you have any concerns about the appearance or feel of your smile, feel free to let us know—we want you to be fully satisfied with your results.
After the final adjustments, the dentist will apply bonding cement to your tooth and securely attach the veneer. A special blue light will then harden the cement, ensuring a strong and lasting bond. After a final check to confirm a proper fit, your veneer will be in place.
You’ll receive care instructions to help preserve the longevity of your veneer, including a list of foods to avoid and the potential need for a night guard if you grind your teeth. With proper care, your veneer can last over 10 years, keeping your smile beautiful for years to come.
